Jill Anderson

Jill Anderson has been painting and drawing for many years.Her creative practice responds to the wild beauty of the Australian bush. Through expressive mark-making and inventive use of colour she shares her joy and wonder in relation with the extraordinary land.

As well as studio works, much of Jill’s artwork is created on extended camping trips with fellow artist and long-time friend Gidja Walker. Being fully immersed in the landscape for months at a time is exhilarating and inspiring and produces work rich with feeling and connection to place. Jill’s artwork explores patterns, textures, sounds, emotions and colours as an abstract record of the feel of a place whilst also responding to how it looks.

Trained as a ceramic artist Jill has developed painting and drawing skills through ongoing explorations with charcoal, acrylic paint, collage, pencil, pen and ink.

Jill’s 2012 Melbourne Drawings suite was acquired by The City of Melbourne.  In 2016 she was commissioned to produce a series of drawings that were exhibited at and acquired by The Melbourne ArtsCentre. In 2019 a short film by Brendan Pinches documenting Jill’s street artpaste-up project won the Tropfest short film festival.

Jill is represented by Stephen McLaughlan Gallery Melbourne.
