Gidja Walker

artist

Gidja Walker OAM is an artist, renowned ecologist, natural systems educator and tireless advocate for the Mornington Peninsula’s uniqeuly diverse biosphere. Gidja’s art practice highlights her way of seeing through an ethno-ecologist's lens. Her work reflects her close study of the natural world and the interconnectedness of life and matter.

“Wild natural places inspire me to create. Those last magic remnants struggling to survive in a world gone crazy. They open my eyes to the myriad of life and its unique interactions and give me a sense of place within them. Painting them empowers and helps build my drive to protect them. It allows me to share their beauty and intricacies with others in the hope they will also be driven to protect them.”
